MEB2 Foundation
The MEB2 Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2006 after Michael Edward Bratton II took his own life at the age of 25. In memory of beloved Michael, our primary focus is to support local youth activities, A New Day, and suicide and depression awareness and prevention in Nevada County.
The MEB2 Foundation is a nonprofit organization funded by local community and business support. Our main fundraiser is the Annual Michael Edward Bratton II Turkey Trot hosted on Thanksgiving Morning. 100% of the proceeds raised at our Turkey Trot are given directly back into our community.
Early detection of depression and youth withdrawal is a goal of our organization. Beneficiaries of MEB2 include organizations such as A New Day that offer resources for life’s hurts. A New Day is a local, free, counseling center created to help individuals through their emotional pain. They exist to offer healing, hope, answers, direction, and tools to effectively deal with yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow’s pain.
Our commitment to local youth activities stems from Michael’s love for and his involvement in sports. As a Nevada Union High School football player and later on in life as a coach, he was passionate about the rewards individuals experienced being a part of something. We believe in the benefits our youth receive participating in these local activities.
As those close to Michael, we have experienced the emotional pain caused with his passing. We have learned that suicide is not the answer. While more than 32,000 people die by suicide every year, the MEB2 Foundation hopes to make a dent in those numbers. By standing up and bringing suicide to the for-front, we strive to make our community aware of this epidemic.
